About The Team:
Akamai’s Development Productivity team is charged with making it easier to develop software at Akamai. We are the core team behind Akamai’s DevOps tool chain. DevProd is a highly motivated, global, and cooperative team, relying on the abilities of all team members to develop innovative and elegant ways to enhance the efficiency of Akamai’s Engineering staff. Technology we support includes source control, issue tracking, build tooling, vulnerability analysis, static analysis, artifact repositories and storage, and wiki/documentation.
About the Job:
This role will sit within the Service Desk group in Dev. Productivity. Service Desk is responsible for providing support of the Dev. Productivity applications. The primary responsibility of this role is operations and support of the Cambridge based software stack. This includes automating application deployment (Ansible and Puppet), maintenance and support of the server OS (Linux), tier II application support, and becoming SME for one or more systems. Specifically, this role will focus on artifact storage on a large, globally distributed system
Install and maintain Dev. Prod. servers and applications
Monitor our production applications
Create automation for deployment, managing, and monitoring applications
Create automation/software/CLIs for use within the team and the company
Identify improvements in systems management and asset tracking.
Provide support to first line Service Desk Engineers.
Work closely with engineering to solve production problems.
Maintain user documentation and knowledge bases.
What Is Needed:
Advanced knowledge of Linux/Unix environments
Experience and knowledge pertaining to artifact storage (ex: Nexus, Artifactory, Perforce, Archiva)
Advanced knowledge and skills installing, administering, and monitoring web applications (ex: Java/Tomcat, Ruby on Rails applications)
Knowledge of large, distributed storage (NFS)
Advanced knowledge and skills in web server configuration (ex: Apache Web server, NGinx)
Programming knowledge in at least two of the following: Python, Ruby, Perl, Bash, Java, Go
Knowledge of basic SQL
Knowledge in installing and maintaining at least one type of database (ex: Mysql, Postgresql)
Knowledge of networking and communication protocols (TCP, TLS, firewalls, load balancers, ssh)
Comfort using source control (Git, Perforce Helix[or legacy Perforce products])
Knowledge of agile methodologies
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to clearly document issues.
Foster a positive team environment.
Customer service orientation
Ability and comfort working with a globally distributed team and company using a variety of communication methods.
What Would Be Nice to Have:
Experience with IT Automation tools (Puppet, Ansible, Chef)
Experience with virtualization and containerization (Vagrant and Docker)
Advanced knowledge of database administration
Experience with JFrog Artifactory
Experience with large distributed systems
Knowledge of enterprise hardware architecture
Experience maintaining, administering, and backing a geographically distributed system with many terabytes of data.
