Role Overview

A Senior Web Developer is primarily responsible for implementing the frontend layer for the web application and integrating into the backend. You will take technical lead on numerous frontend development topics for both internal and external developers ensuring consistent coding standards. You will coach/mentor junior/new team members. This is a technical role that requires a strong understanding of the broader frontend and backend tools and technologies, and advanced communication skills.

Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of this role are the following:

  • Implementing frontend layer for web applications

  • Cross-team alignment to ensure best practice and standards

  • Conducting code reviews for frontend related tasks for multiple project teams

  • Technical/functional consulting for frontend related topics in multiple project teams

  • Participating in user interface design for customer projects

  • Working with controllers in MVC scheme

  • Coaching and mentoring new/junior team members

  • Coordinating and delegating frontend work to internal and external developers, including the customer team

  • Implementing CMS structure of the application

  • Collaborating closely with design agencies, customers, business analysts and testers to understand business requirements and develop code to meet these requirements

  • Taking part in customer-facing activities

  • Strong focus on high-quality throughout the entire development process

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates for this role will have the following:

  • 5 years’ experience developing web-based applications

  • Ability to take technical leadership responsibility

  • Experience of Spring (2.5 or above)

  • Experience of Java 5 or higher and Java Enterprise technologies

  • Experience of ORM frameworks, e.g. Hibernate, Toplink, etc.

  • Experience of RDBMS, e.g. Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server

  • Experience of system integrations, e.g. using JMS, web services, or ETL tools

  • Experience and understanding of application performance tuning

  • Experience and understanding of design patterns

  • Strong JavaScript/HTML/CSS skills

  • Experience with JQuery and Ajax

  • Ability to work as part of a self-organising team

Any of the following would be an advantage but not required:

  • Experience (or strong interest) in agile methods such as Scrum/XP

  • Experience with mobile web application development

  • Experience in Java

  • Experience of eCommerce projects
